Spitfire 1500, 1976, RHD

There's no doubt about it, the Spitfire's smoothly styled body with flared wheel arches, sports road wheels and sleek lines gives it a big-striding, urgent image. But appearances are only part of the scene. Under the Spitfire's elegant facade is all the strength and safety of Triumph engineering. There's a double back-bone chassis of braced steel girders, and steering is by rack and pinion for light control and instant response.

Roadholding and comfort are well catered for by the Spitfire's all independent suspension and radial ply tyres, and thanks to a large front antiroll bar, fast corners lose all of their drama. Brakes are powerful 9 in front discs with rear drums. They respond to a soft touch and clamp down hard. So you can see that with all these engineering refinements, the Spitfire takes your sports car motoring to new heights.

Wherever your activities take you, the Spitfire's versatile image will be right on target. It is, in fact, a sports car for every occasion, equally at home in the multitude of roles that you demand of it.
You can choose between the standard soft-top and tonneau model, or the detachable hard-top version. The latter features a snug fitting, fully trimmed and easily removable steel top that effectively converts your open sports car into a closed coupe. It's styled to complement the Spitfire's sleek lines, and features hinged antidraught rear quarter vents. You pay your money and take your choice.
And at the rear, there is a sensibly shaped luggage boot of 7 cu. ft. capacity, which is automatically illuminated when the lid is raised. Rain or shine, the Spitfire gives you more fun and enjoyment per mile and per £ than anything else on wheels.
