| Aother try (after a walk with the dog): Herald rear suspension is a bad design, though simple and cheap. As the diff is boulted to the chssis and there is only one universal joint par side, cambre can change only by change of car heigth. The lower, the more negative. The lower the car the better road performance. You lower the car by: + less curved spring + higher mounted spring (block between spring and diff) + more weight in the back of the car + shorter distance between axle and spring at wheel end (shorter or differnet designed vertical link, shorter spring, longer axle). The stiffer the spring and shockabsorbers the less change in camber. You need have springs to keep the wheels on the road. A very intelligent compromise to pivot a stiff spring over the diff. Best compromise in normal life: swinspring with light negative camber in standard position. + Stiffer means less comfort but better road holding. + Lower means more problems on bad road surface but better road holding. Choose your compromise. Most of the effect you get by the right spring and good shock absorbers. Changing the design of vertical links is not for normal people Longer axles has nearly no effect but you get you the bonus of bearing problems (the 1500 problems). Triumph was not that intelligent to use better bearings when the axles got longer. |
